Thoresby Colliery Band has announced that it has parted company with Resident Conductor David Purkiss.
A spokesperson told 4BR: "David joined the band back in 2011 and, under his enthusiastic and capable leadership Thoresby has enjoyed success a great deal of success on the contest and concert stage."
New job
David’s new responsibilities as Director of Music at The Friary School in Lichfield has meant that he decided to hand over the full time reins at Thoresby and accept the new position closer to home as Associate MD of the Staffordshire Band.
Good terms
He told 4BR: "We part on very good terms with very good friendships formed. I also look forward to the possibility of short term project work with the band in the future.
I will miss working with Thoresby after what was a difficult decision to make. I know the band will go from strength to strength in the coming years."
Thanks
Band Chairman George Kennedy added: "David's arrival at Thoresby was like a breath of fresh air, and the standard of the band has continued to rise with him at the helm.
We have played at some great concerts and events under him and wish him the very best of luck for the future. We would publically like to thank David for everything that he has done for the band during his time with us."
Thoresby is currently in the process of seeking a long term replacement.
