Wharfe Brass recently enjoyed a clean sweep of prizes at the Wharfedale Music Festival.
Glowing remarks
Part of the Otley Band organisation, their 50 players entered in the 18 & Under and Open class categories, with the band itself receiving glowing remarks from the adjudicator Stephen Roberts who placed the band first in both sections.
In his written remarks he stated: ‘This predominantly young band seems to play with such maturity and style, they bond together so well to create a big but not overblown sound. Thank you – it was very musically satisfying.’
Ensemble and solo success
The band also fielded three ensembles of horns, trombones and mixed group – with the latter coming just ahead of the trombones to win, with the horns coming third in their ensemble class.
Young players Fergus Straiton and Dan Cullen also came second and third respectively in the Brass Solo Class.
The band is playing so well just now. We have an enthusiastic band of over 50 players meeting every Tuesday and we have plans to form a feeder group for Wharfe Brass too, so watch this space!MD Gordon Eddison
