Blue Peter television presenter Barney Harwood was recently given the challenge to learn to play a trombone in just two weeks and march with a youth band at a brass band contest.
Filmed
As a result, the presenter of the iconic children’s programme will follow the 35 strong Northop Youth Band around Saddleworth and Tameside at the Whit Friday march contests, with his efforts being filmed for a future programme.
Barney had lessons from Bollington’s trombone player, who said: "It’s an amazing achievement to think Barney has been able to play and march, so well, within this short period of time."
Great interest
Northop Youth Band MD Dave Davies told 4BR: "It’s been interesting to read some of the comments and advice young players have been giving Barney on the Blue Peter website.
It shows that there is not only a great deal of interest in the programme but also in brass banding. The youngsters (all aged from 8 years of age upwards) think a great deal of the presenter, and this is also a great bit of good banding news too."
