Zone One Brass has announced news of a new partnership project with the London Borough’s of Sutton and Hounslow Music Services and the Royal College of Music.
Working together
The collaboration will involve the Borough's young brass and percussion players working with the London based section band from early 2014.
The project will be part funded by an award of £8,000 from the trustees of The Mayor of London’s Fund for Young Musicians Partnerships Programme, to improve instrumental learning opportunities for young Londoners by funding Music Services and arts organisations to work together.
Addressing gaps
The partnerships must address a gap in provision, build on existing activity and demonstrate a genuine spirit of collaboration.
Young musicians from both Sutton and Hounslow will be treated to an introductory concert by Zone One Brass and will come together to form a Junior and Senior Brass Band who will be coached and rehearsed by Zone One’s principal players and conductor Richard Ward.
Culminate
The project will culminate in a performance in the prestigious Amaryllis Flemming Concert Hall at the Royal College of Music, providing the pupils the opportunity to perform alongside professional musicians at a leading Music Conservatoire.
Not a one off
Further plans will insure the project will not just be a 'one off' as Zone One Band Manager Mark Probert told 4BR:
"Following this project, the Sutton Youth Brass Band will be formed.
It will be an ensemble who will rehearse regularly during school holidays and will perform at a number of local and national events, developing a culture for brass banding in London Borough of Sutton."

Exciting news
Zone One conductor Richard Ward added: "It's exciting news and bound to be a project which will enthuse everyone involved. Mark Probert has done a fantastic job bringing together the four organisations and successfully bidding for the funding.
Most players at Zone One are involved in music education and though it's not the first time the band has worked on such a project, this will be the biggest and most ambitious."
