David Ashworth has invited band reps to attend a meeting in Blackpool to discuss future plans for the banding movement in England.

David Ashworth has repeated his call to those he believes wish to see the English banding movement head in a new direction, by announcing that an open meeting of band representatives will be held on the Spring Festival weekend in Blackpool on Saturday May 11th.

Meeting

The meeting is scheduled to take place at The Gresham Hotel, on Adelaide Street in Blackpool (situated across the street from the back entrance to the Winter Gardens) at 2.00pm prompt, to end around 3.30pm.

The meeting is open to any single banding representative from any UK band.

Debate

David told 4BR that he is keen to foster further healthy debate about the aims and objectives he initially proposed at the open forum meeting hosted by Brass Bands England held late last year near Barnsley.

"We want to try and outline in more detail the aims and objectives I touched upon at that meeting, as well as the subsequent statement released to the banding press in the past couple of months," he said.

We invite a single representative from any interested band to come along to the meeting, as we believe it is a matter of the greatest urgency for the health of our movementDavid Ashworth

Urgency

He added: "We invite a single representative from any interested band to come along to the meeting, as we believe it is a matter of the greatest urgency for the health of our movement.

We politely ask for only one representative so that we can manage the debate and that we do not interfere with people’s enjoyment of the Spring Festival contests."
