Forest of Dean open for entries

The 7th Forest of Dean Solo & Ensemble Championships is opening its doors to even more musicians this year.

Forest of Dean

The 7th Forest of Dean Solo & Ensemble Championship takes place on Saturday 13th July in Coleford in Gloucestershire.

Diverse

In recognition of the diverse musical tastes and abilities many of today's players, the format of the event has been overhauled to allow more musicians to participate. This year all classes are open to all instrumentalists, not just brass, and vocalists.

In order to facilitate the change, solo class definitions have been modernised and are now categorised by approximate playing standard rather than age, and for those musicians who welcome a greater challenge there are three recitalist classes which require the competitor to present an own choice programme of extended duration.

Winners

The winners of the Junior Recitalist and the Senior Recitalist classes will be crowned Forest of Dean Junior Young Musician and Forest of Dean Senior Young Musician of the Year 2013 respectively and will be invited to perform a recital in the Forest of Dean next Spring.

Also new for 2013 are the Jazz Solo classes designed to cater for all those budding Jazz musicians who wish to showcase their talents!Organisers

Jazz

Also new for 2013 are the Jazz Solo classes designed to cater for all those budding Jazz musicians who wish to showcase their talents!

As in previous years there is the option for soloists to perform with a CD/Mp3 accompaniment which hopefully will continue to encourage even more young (and older) musicians who do not have the facility to rehearse with a pianist to enter the competition.

Further details

An official accompanist will also be available should there be sufficient demand.

The closing date for entries is Friday 28th June.
