Composer Oliver Waespi has told 4BR that the critical acclaim given to the recent premiere of his new 'Euphonium Concerto' performed by Thomas Rüedi in Switzerland, may well lead to the work finding its way into the brass band repertoire.
Beyond intentions
"The Concerto was successfully premiered with an inspirational performance by Thomas Rüedi with the Zuger Sinfonietta conducted by Philippe Bach," Oliver said. "He performed in a league of his own, projecting it beyond my intentions."
Work for brass
He added: "Although the sonic interaction between euphonium and strings was perfect — both possessing a wide range of expression and a finely balanced sound over several registers, I now imagine the Concerto could also work with a brass or wind accompaniment."
