National Youth go all funk

Young players from the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain have teamed up for a New Age Brass Experience with a difference...

A group of young players from the National Youth Band of Great Britain have formed a brand new Big Band/Funk Band entitled, ‘New-age Brass Experience'.

Unique

The new ensemble incorporates brass band instrumentation to form what they believe will be a rather unique new sound palette to traditional brass band ears!

Wide range

Horn player Jonathan Bates told 4BR: "The group was initially formed in 2011 and has played at a number of NYBBGB courses, but we are now looking further afield.

Our repertoire includes items from popular jazz artists such as Maynard Ferguson and Herbie Hancock, through to wide range of genres to the likes of James Last and Adele."

The members of the new group are Illiam Quane, Jamie Smith, Thomas Fountain, Kaitlin Wild and Jack Wilson (trumpets/soprano/flugel), Jonathan Bates (horn), Michael Cavanagh (baritone), Chris Binns and Josh Cirtina (trombones), Joshua Flynn and Tom Steer (tubas) and Kieran Johnson (kit)
