New Zealand reaches out for the Promised Land

The set works for the 2013 New Zealand Championships have been announced — and they have a bit of a flavour of Wales.

The Brass Band Association of New Zealand has announced the set works that will be used at their National Championships in New Plymouth later this year.

Welsh flavour

There is something of a Welsh flavour to the challenge in the top two sections, with the A Grade bands having to get to grips with Kenneth Downie’s ‘The Promised Land’, whilst the B Grade contenders will lock horns with ‘Brass Triumphant’ by Gareth Wood — both initially commissioned by the Cory Band under MD, Dr Robert Childs.

This was recently been used in the UK as the set work for First Section bands at the Regional Championships.

British

The C Grade bands will play ‘A British Iles Suite’ by Jonathan Bates, which was commissioned for the Fourth Section National Championship Finals in Cheltenham in 2012.

The list of works to be used for the solo championships has also been released:

Set Works:

A Grade: The Promised Land (Kenneth Downie)
