Blaenavon Town has announced the appointment of experienced soprano player Lee Elliot, who has joined the Second Section band in time for their appearance at the Welsh Regional Championships in Swansea next weekend.
Upturn
Lee joins from Tongwynlais Temperance, and was part of the band that secured fourth place at the National Finals last October.
The signing marks a further upturn in fortunes for the band from the Welsh World Heritage town, following the deaths of much loved members Martin Adams, John Ford and Leighton Evans.
Encouraging
Recent contest results have been encouraging under the baton of Andrew Protheroe-Jones with new players coming into the band from their ever growing youth band.
A spokesperson told 4BR: "It’s been sometime since the band has needed to recruit from outside the bandroom, but with the departure of soprano player Andy Watkins to Abergavenny we were keen to sign an experienced soprano player in readiness for the Welsh Regional Championship."
