Derwent Brass has announced that they have been declared a winner in the 2013 Epic Awards – People’s Choice Award.

The People’s Choice Award was set up to generate interest in all the shortlisted groups by voting for the one they wanted to win.

Delighted

This certainly proved to be the case with Derwent delighted to see a massive number of votes coming in from around the globe, heightening awareness for both the band and the wider banding movement.

A spokesperson told 4BR: "Derwent’s entry into the competition was based mainly on the inspiring partnership building we undertook with composer Paul McGhee on his contemporary work ‘Episodes, Occurrences and Interludes.’"

20th anniversary

They added: "This was in addition to the work undertaken in concerts, raising money for charities, achieving good contest results, working with various artists, and also running both performers and composers workshops during our celebratory 20th anniversary year.

Derwent would like to thank everyone who voted. It was very much appreciated and really made all the difference."
