Brass Band Forum Wales Chairman Iestyn Davies has told 4BR that he has been delighted with the initial response to his request for financial help to enable three talented young players represent Wales in the European Youth Brass Band in Oslo in May.
Support
"With no central arts funding stream to access for the players, we have asked the banding public to offer their support," Iestyn said.
"Even within a few days we have had pledges amounting to over £400 to help the players enjoy what promises to be a fantastic experience."
Players
The three Welsh representatives, Robert Spencer from Gwent, Huw Evans from Ceredigion and Ceri Parry Morgan from Port Talbot will perform with the European Youth Band throughout the Championships, which run from April 27th to May 5th.
Friends
Iestyn added: "The Friends of the National Youth Band of Wales already offer generous help, whilst we have now been able to gain this extra assistance from individuals and bands themselves.
Wales wishes to play an active role in European banding – and we also hope to be able to set up a bursary scheme to help future representatives."
Honour
Ceri Parry Morgan told 4BR: "It’s a real honour to represent Wales — but it is an expensive honour too – especially in Norway. All three of us are very grateful for the help that is being offered by the banding movement in Wales."

Representative help
Meanwhile, Iestyn also revealed that the Forum is seeking to gain additional financial help to assist in meeting the costs of the Welsh EBBA representatives Alex James.
"Alex has been an excellent ambassador for Welsh banding in Europe, and we hope to raise funds to enable her to meet the extensive costs of representing Welsh interests at the highest level."
