Thoresby boost ranks ahead of Bedworth

Thoresby Colliery Band has added to the ranks as they prepare for the Midlands Area contest at Bedworth.

Thoresby

Thoresby Colliery Band has announced a number of new signings ahead of their Midlands Regional Championship challenge in Bedworth in March.

Qualities

Following the departure of Bob Craddock on bass trombone, Richard Bond comes in as his replacement to join his wife Clare who already plays second trombone.

MD Dave Purkiss told 4BR: "Richard is a fabulous player and we are delighted to secure his services. He is obviously already well known to the band and we look forward to adding his qualities to the section."

Meanwhile, Geoff Benson joins on second baritone from Dodworth Colliery, returning to the band after a 20 year absence and Rebecca Storey comes in on back row cornet having previously played with Whitwell and Cresswell Bands. Rebecca recently won a music scholarship and is currently studying for her A Levels at Worksop College.

Horns and euph

Kieren Williams signs on horn as he returns to Nottinghamshire after a period working near London and is joined by David O’Dea who comes from Barnsley Chronicle to complete the horn section line-up. Finally, Rob Woods takes up the second euphonium seat.

We are delighted to attract such great players to the band's ranks and are looking forward to another busy and successful year in 2013George Kennedy

Thanks

Dave Purkiss added: "The band's long standing first horn player Laura Bevan stands down for a well deserved rest as she awaits the birth of her second child in May. The band would like to thank her for all her hard work and commitment to the band over the years."

Band Chairman George Kennedy added: "We are delighted to attract such great players to the band's ranks and are looking forward to another busy and successful year in 2013."
