On what turned out to be a couple of very cold and damp days in October late last year, members of the Marsden Silver Prize Band were transformed into The Yorkshire Tea Band during filming of the famous brand’s latest advertisement campaign.
Nationwide
The new prime-time adverts will be shown nationwide from Monday onwards and will feature the band in tailor made costumes, which include huge Yorkshire Tea mugs for hats and some instruments replaced for filming with teapot cornets.
There is also a specially made tea urn drum and a glockenspiel made from tea spoons.
Boosted by the brew
Marsden’s players literally spent from dawn till dusk each day on a cricket pitch just outside Bradford, boosted by cups of the famous brew, to be part of what proved to be a very interesting experience, as the producers put together the complex constituent parts to the commercial.
Later, the soundtrack was recorded in Marsden’s bandroom, with sound engineer Keith Farrington from Music House Productions working hard with the production company to ensure that the recording sounded as if it were made out of doors.
Special attention
A band spokesperson told 4BR: "Special attention had to be kept to synchronise the music with the on-screen action, as well as perhaps the only time that MD Glyn Williams has insisted that the band play slightly less stylishly than usual and behind his beat to reflect the ‘live’ outdoor action."
The success of the project has been such that the pairing of Yorkshire Tea with Marsden Band is set to continue well into the future.

Ashes test matches
The band have already performed at the in-house launch, and over the next few months will be making more appearances as The Yorkshire Tea Band, including an invitation to play at each of the 2013 Five Ashes test matches.
So keep your eyes peeled for Marsden Band in the commercial breaks, enjoying as they say – ‘A Proper Brew’!
