Jesper Juul Windahl, principal trombonist with the Danish National Symphony Orchestra, and a former winner of the European Brass Band Championship Conductor’s Competition, has been appointed Professor of Brass at the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen.
Influential
The influential Danish conductor and trombonist is a former graduate of the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Aarhus and Copenhagen, whilst he also studied in Paris and Chicago.
He will take up his new role from March 1st.
European winner
In 2000/2001 he was awarded the ‘Classical Artist of the Year’ title by the Danish national broadcast company, and in recent years has been active in the commission of new Danish compositions for trombone.
He was a finalist in the first ever European Conductor’s Competition in Birmingham in 2000, just losing out to eventual winner Jose Rafael Pascual-Vilaplana, before claiming the title three years later in Bergen.

Teaching
He has recently been teaching at the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Aarhus and Copenhagen and the Academy of Music in Esbjerg and Malmö.
From 2009-2012 was he the conductor in residence for Prinsens Musikkorps.
