Local cash Cowes help band

Cowes Concert Brass has been helped by a generous cash grant from a local estate agent firm.

A local estate agent has given a significant boost to Cowes Concert Brass, with the donation of a £500 grant towards new instruments.

Long term

The sponsorship from Megan Baker Estate Agents takes Cowes Concert Band’s fundraising campaign total past £3,000, helping ensure its long-term future.

Popular

Megan said: "I know how popular the band is on the Island and what a vital part they play in entertaining residents and visitors throughout the year. The band shares our values of forming close ties with the community and I hope they continue going from strength to strength."

The 61 year-old band started its drive for extra funds 18 months ago, approaching businesses and organisations in the Cowes area for sponsorship or donations.

Biggest donation

Musical director Andy Norman said the cash from Megan Baker Estate Agents was the biggest single donation so far.

"The response from the town has been fantastic, particularly in these difficult economic times.

Many of our instruments were very old and in a poor condition so we could not offer them to new members, but we are gradually acquiring new ones and the band is in good shape with 26 players on our books."
