Rising euphonium star Grant Jameson has accepted the principal euphonium seat with Tongwynlais Band following the departure of Martyn Patterson earlier this month.
Talented
The talented American hails from Ohio and in 2011 was named a national winner of the Yamaha Young Performing Artist competition. He was also a finalist in the United States Marine Corps Band ‘President’s Own’ Youth Concerto Competition and was a finalist in the prestigious Leonard Falcone Euphonium competition.
Grant is now continuing his studies at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama, and after a short spell with Masters champion Tredegar has joined Tongwynlais in time to make his debut at the forthcoming coming Welsh Regional Championships.
Opportunity
"I feel so fortunate to have the opportunity to play for such a fine ensemble with so many good people," he told 4BR. "I’m really looking forward to working with my new team."
MD, Steve Sykes added: "I'm delighted to welcome Grant to Tongwynlais. He’s going to be a real asset to the band. Having already packed a great deal of quality solo and ensemble playing at home in the USA, he has already made a big impression on the banding scene in South Wales — an area that really knows a thing or two about great euphonium playing!
I'm sure it won’t be too long before this talented young man's reputation as a quality performer will spread far into the banding world. It’s wonderful to have him involved with this progressive band."
