The Markham & District Band has announced the appointment of Gareth Pritchard as their new Musical Director.

The experienced conductor takes over with immediate effect from Adrian Morton, but will also continue as MD of Lewis Merthyr Band.

Delighted

Chairman, Clive Pinney told 4BR: "We are delighted that Gareth has agreed to join us following our recent success together in coming runner-up in the top section at the final Welsh League contest of the 2012 season.

His impact saw the band also claim the Best Soloist and Best Bass Section awards, so we are looking forward to building on that success in the future."

Thanks

He added: "We would also like to take the opportunity to thank Adrian for his hard work over the last few years and wish him all the best for the future."

Signings

The Welsh band also took the opportunity to reveal a brace of new signings.

Tom Dunne (euphonium) and Erin McSporran (soprano) have joined in time to make their debuts at the forthcoming Welsh Open in Porthcawl in February. Both are studying at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff.

Clive Pinney added: "We are delighted that we have been able to attract such talented musicians into our ranks and their arrival will certainly strengthen the band."
