On a rather cold and snowy winter’s Sunday morning, competitors turned up to the Halfway House Hotel in Kingseat, Dunfermline to compete in annual Fife Charities Band Association Solo & Ensemble competition.
Healthy entry
The healthy entry certainly gave adjudicator Paul Kiernan something to think about especially in the Junior, Intermediate and Youth sections.
Picking a winner
Paul later commented that he had enjoyed listening to the young players. "Hopefully it will ensure the senior brass bands in Fife stay healthy," he told 4BR, "although picking an overall winner was a bit easier."
He also wished all the competitors well in the upcoming Besson Scottish Solo & Ensemble Championships.
Tullis success
The Tullis Russell organisation enjoyed a very good contest day, picking up awards in all sections with no less than six first places.
Meanwhile, many older Fife bandsmen and women will be pleased to see the names of two famous brass band family's now enjoying success with their latest generation of young players.
Adam Bathgate picking up second place in the under 12's (which his older brother won last year), whilst Dylan McLaughlin came third in the same section, with brother Michael picking the award for best trombone in the contest.
