Gwent Music Support Services have announced that due to a lack of entries they have been forced to cancel this year’s Gwent Youth Brass Festival.
Low take up
The popular event was to have taken place on Saturday 26th January at Coleg Gwent, Crosskeys Campus, but due to the low take up by the closing date of Monday 7th January, it has now be cancelled.
The decision comes at a difficult time for the Support Service, despite their flagship Youth and Intermediate bands providing a fine annual concert in Newport last weekend.
In the last few weeks news has been leaked of potential savage cuts to funding of close to a third of a million pounds.

Disappointed
Alun Williams, Head of Gwent Music Support Service told 4BR: "We are disappointed that the event will not take place this year, but we hope it will continue again in the future, possibly at a smaller venue.
We feel sorry for all the bands that have been preparing for the festival but we feel that this is the right decision at this time."
