The current ‘Double’ champion Foden’s has announced the permanent return of tuba player Phil Green.
Distinction
Phil originally joined Foden’s under Howard Snell in 1994 after a successful time at Desford Colliery Caterpillar Band. Originally a BBb player he moved to solo Eb tuba in 1995, a position he held with distinction until he left in 2005.
However, the lure of the red jacket never quite left the popular performer and he made a spectacular return this year to help the band secure their first ‘Double’ of British Open and National Championship victories since 1910.
Delighted
Foden’s Mark Wilkinson told 4BR: "Everyone is delighted that Phil has decided to make a permanent return back to the band. He is a great player and an excellent bandsman."
Phil himself added: "I’m thrilled to be offered the chance to rejoin Foden’s. I left in 2005 after a British Open win and I managed to return to see it back in Sandbach – so it’s as if I have never been away – although to win the Nationals as well was such a brilliant bonus."
They must have shrunk in the wash in my absence, because my old one is now a bit tight – and I don’t understand quite why!Phil Green
Tight red
Phil’s only concern is that he perhaps needs a new famous red jacket: "They must have shrunk in the wash in my absence, because my old one is now a bit tight – and I don’t understand quite why!
Still – I’m just as proud of wearing it as I ever was and I’m really looking forward to working with Mike Fowles and Allan Withington in what promises to be some very exciting times for the band."
