Dr Robert Childs accepts new appointment from the University of Salford.
New role
Further to Dr Robert Childs’ recent appointment as Principal Guest Conductor of the Black Dyke Band, he has now confirmed to 4BR that he has now accepted a part-time role at the University of Salford.
Having initially been approached by Professor Peter Graham, subsequent meetings with Professor Stephen Davison led to Robert accepting an invitation to carry out a variety of activities including research, personal tutor duties, ensemble musicianship and conducting.
Pleased
Dr Childs told 4BR: "I’m very pleased to be involved at Salford. I have some great memories from the time I used to teach euphonium there some thirty years ago, and more recently I completed my Doctoral studies at the University.
There is a great legacy of brass band musicians who have taught at Salford including Goff Richards, David Loukes, Dr Roy Newsome, and Professor David King, as well as a ‘who’s who’ list of past students."
Addition to Cardiff
Robert has accepted the post to add to his part-time post as Director of Brass Band Studies at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff, where amongst other projects he is currently working on a St David’s Day programme for the College Brass Band to include performances of Thomas Doss’s ‘Spiriti’ and Peter Graham's ‘Euphonium Concerto’.
