Russell Gray is putting the final touches to his forthcoming ‘Conducting Course’ weekend, which will take place between the 30th November & 2nd December.

Rehearsal and baton technique

Based at Boarshurst Band Club, Russell will be leading delegates through an extensive evaluation of rehearsal and baton technique with the help of the Boarshurst and Fairey Bands, with the opportunity to conduct Fairey in a course ending concert of repertoire of their own choice.

Aim

He told 4BR: "It’s an ideal opportunity to pass on the elements of good practice that I’ve learned with my ongoing development as a conductor working with top brass bands, semi professional orchestras and leading music academics.

The simple aim is to help develop better, more confident and focussed conductors."

He added: "It will be an intensive working environment with the added bonus of being able to work with two fine bands on concert repertoire that challenges conducting technique and rehearsal approach."

Innovative

Russell’s innovative teaching methods will see delegates able to bring along concert repertoire they wish to conduct with Fairey, as well as dust off any old instruments to help to gain first hand experience of just what practical information they hope to impart to their players.

Video analysis and evaluation will help the delegates prepare for their opportunity to conduct Fairey on a concert work of their own choosing on the Sunday evening at Boarshurst Band Club.

"It’s the opportunity to put everything into practice and show the progress that will be hopefully made,” Russell added. "I’m really looking forward to a weekend of hard work, plenty of fun and great music making."
