Due to a mistake in the score and parts of the Butlins Mineworkers Open Brass Band Festival, Second Section test piece ‘In Memoriam’, the publishers Pennine Music are to send out a free replacement score and parts for those bands that are affected.
Error
Pennine Music owner, Gavin Somerset told 4BR: "There’s an error in the score and back row cornet parts (excluding soprano) after letter E, where a bar rest is missing.
All bands that have purchased the test piece direct from us should already have received a replacement set of parts and score automatically. We’re asking any bands who have purchased this item via music stores (Just Music, Band Supplies etc.) or who have yet to receive a copy, to get in touch with us so we can offer them the replacement set free of charge."
This is our first test piece publication since we launched in 2004 and whilst we, like all publishers, do our best to avoid mistakesGavin Somerset
Avoid mistakes
Gavin continued: "This is our first test piece publication since we launched in 2004 and whilst we, like all publishers, do our best to avoid mistakes, as bands start to rehearse the works, things come to light that are not discovered in the preparation before publication.
We’re also including new solo cornet and trombone parts with these replacement sets as there is one wrong note in each. Whilst these are easily correctable by the players themselves with a pencil, why should they have too? Bands pay a lot of money for music and test pieces in particular and so they should be right."
