Russell Gray has followed in the musical footsteps of Sir Adrian Boult, Harry Mortimer OBE and Dr Roy Newsome to become the new President of the National Association of Brass Band Conductors.
Active role
NABBC chairman Andrew White told 4BR that the NABBC is delighted that the Scotsman has decided to play an active role in an organisation that is undergoing innovative change.
"We are delighted that Russell has accepted the appointment," he said.
"His positive, professional attitude to music making has already inspired thousands of musicians and his support and guidance will be a most welcomed asset to our association and its members."
Reorganisation
The latest appointment comes following a series of major strategic reorganisation changes the NABBC undertook following its annual conference in Woking earlier this year.
These have included the abolishment of its six regional committees, the formation of a new governing executive board which embraces regional representation, a new constitution, new initiatives and a new website design.

Creative mind
Andrew added: "Whilst the political and educational agenda is now being extensively addressed, the existing executive board wanted a young inspirational conductor with a creative mind and excellent communication skills – and we have found that person in Russell Gray."
Honoured
Russell added: "I’m honoured and delighted to accept the role of NABBC President during this time of restructure. I look forward to continuing their great work during this very exciting time and, to being a proactive member of the Association and Executive Board."
