One of the musical centre pieces for the 140th year celebrations of the Wingates Band in 2013 has been revealed.
Concerto
British Composer Award winner Lucy Pankhurst is to write a ‘Concerto Grosso’ which will feature a trio of former principal euphonium players – David Thornton, Gary Curtin and Lewis Musson.
Unique
A Wingates spokesperson told 4BR: "We are delighted to announce this unique collaboration which will feature three of the finest euphonium players in the band’s 140 year history.
We are sure that Lucy’s blend of talent, originality and wit will produce a landmark work, whilst the sheer talent of the three soloists will make it a premiere to remember!"
Open winners
Further announcements about the plans for the 140th celebrations will be made in due course as other events are confirmed and finalised.
In the meantime the band are keen to hear from any ex-players who like to be involved in a massed band reunion, especially anyone who played in the 1975 British Open winning band.
