The Aveley & Newham Band has announced that Melvin White has agreed to take them as professional conductor to the forthcoming Leicester Contest.

A spokesperson told 4BR: "The band have been actively seeking a nationally recognised and established conductor to move us forward, and so are pleased that Melvin has agreed to come in and take the reins.

He will work together with the Resident Conductor, Simon Jones, and other local conductors in or order to prepare the band fully."

Melvin previously enjoyed a highly successful spell as Musical Director of the band and told 4BR he is looking forward to his return for the contest.
