The organisers of the Northern Open Brass Band Championships, sponsored by R. Banks & Son (Funerals Ltd) have reported a tremendous entry of bands for the event which takes place on Sunday 18th November.

Full House

With the closing date fast approaching there are just a few spaces available for bands to fill in the Championship and Second Sections, with the ‘full house’ signs already up in Sections Three and Four.

Great response

"There has been a great response from the bands," contest organiser Frank Hodges told 4BR. "The extra publicity and our increased need for media awareness has proved to be very successful, so I would advise any bands that wish to take part or be considered, to get in touch as soon as possible."

He added: "The contained support of sponsor Brian Halliwell and his firm has been instrumental in ensuing that the event can continue to offer competitors a vibrant contest. His commitment to banding in the area is simply outstanding and it is great to see the bands also support such an important regional event."

Judges

Frank revealed that Black Dyke Director of Music, Dr Nicholas Childs and Rainford MD, Neil Samuel will share the adjudication duties on the own choice selections at the Theatre Royal, in St Helens St.Helens.

I would advise any bands that wish to take part or be considered, to get in touch as soon as possibleFrank Hodges

Registration

It was also reported that the contest will not use the British Brass Band Registry (BBBR) for the contest and that alternative arrangements are to be implemented. The contest administrator will contact all bands to advise them about the procedures that will be used.
