Music to help the horses go by

The City of Chester Bands recently helped the punters enjoy the horse racing with a bit of music.

City of Chester

The City of Chester Band organisation gave the punters at Chester Racecourse plenty of great music to enjoy recently.

Musical accompaniment

At the invitation of Chester Race Company Ltd, the senior and training bands performed on the hard standing in front of the County Stand prior to the first race, and despite the inclement weather gave the race goers a great musical accompaniment to their day.

Conducted by MD Philip Mottershead, Matthew Birkett and Robert MacDonald the event also marked the return of Emily Boardman, Alix Worthington and James Flynn, students at the University of Chester, while it also saw the final appearance of tuba player Áine Jackson before she departed to Oxford University.

Charity boost

Meanwhile, the British Lung Foundation is to receive £450 as a result of a concert held in Helsby given by the senior City of Chester Band.

Concert promoter Jane Mottershead was delighted with the band’s performance, which highlighted music associated with various decades of the Queen’s reign and the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
