4BR has been informed of the death of Arthur Batten, aged 85.

Steelman

Arthur, originally from Porth in the Rhondda Valleys began playing cornet for Lewis Methyr Band and in the early 1950's working at the huge Port Talbot steel works became a member of the Steel Company of Wales Band, currently known as the Tata Brass Band.

Life Member

Over the years, Arthur tutored many young brass players, including his own children, nephews and grandchildren He also played for Briton Ferry Band and was a life member of the South East Wales Brass Band Association.

Funeral details

The funeral will take place at 11.00am on Monday 8th October at Margam Crematorium.
