One of the most successful bands in Australian banding history will be celebrating its centenary next month.
Special concert
Brisbane Excelsior was formed on 14th April 1912 will celebrate its 100th birthday on 9th November at a special centenary concert at the Tivoli Theatre in the city.
President Rick Casagrande told 4BR: "The celebration is an open invite to anyone who has been a member of the band and to the public alike."
100 years of music
The band will host a centenary concert which will feature their remaining 15 life members who will get together to perform, as well as the Excelsior Windsor Brass formed some 10 years ago from within the Excelsior organisation.
The evening will celebrate the life of the Brisbane Excelsior organization by matching music to the most significant historical events of the last century.
Successful
Brisbane Excelsior has become arguably the most successful contesting band in the southern hemisphere in the past 10 years, and Rick wants to celebrate their achievements in considerable style, with an invite to any person who has played a part in the band’s history.
Musical Director Howard Taylor, now back of the band after a two year stint away, will be charged with providing the music from past, present and future, and will be joined by conductor Barrie Gott who spent a great deal of time with the band in the late 1990’s.
