Leyland has announced that former principal trombonist Danny Brooks, has re-joined the North West champion.
Opportunity
After a short spell at Brighouse & Rastrick his increasing conducting and teaching roles in the North West, gave him the opportunity to return to the band.
He told 4BR: "I had a fantastic time at Brighouse but the travelling became too much. I am MD of a flourishing Eccleston Band and I teach 30 or so young pupils in the village also. There is only so much you can do in a week! Leyland is developing an outstanding band and I only live 2 miles from the bandroom so it made perfect sense to join again."
Cornet signing
Danny is joined by Matt Gledhill on solo cornet.
Matt joins after gaining considerable top level experience with Grimethorpe, Brighouse and YBS.
He added: "I’m delighted to join the hard working team at Leyland. They have an excellent calendar of concerts and contests and I will be re-united with my pal Leigh Baker. The band is young and hungry for success and this is something I want to be part of."
The band is now at full capacity and we have a full schedule of concerts, contests and trips abroad. The next few months are going to certainly be excitingMD, Leigh Baker
Swiss addition
Finally, Leyland welcomes Thomas Berger, a Swiss cornet player who is studying in Manchester until December. Thomas is a member of Brass Band Fribourg and is especially looking forward to playing at the Albert Hall in October.
Top class players
MD Leigh Baker commented: "I’m delighted we can attract top class players such as Danny, Matt and Thomas. The band is now at full capacity and we have a full schedule of concerts, contests and trips abroad. The next few months are going to certainly be exciting."
