The sun shone on the famous Hardraw Scar contest last Sunday as once again the 131 year old event, with its backdrop of the highest free falling waterfall in England, attracted a capacity crowd to hear bands play at one of the iconic open air contest venues in the banding world.
High standard
With several new entrants, predicting the winners and other awards was a bit of a difficult job for both the adjudicators and the public with a high standard of playing from bands and especially soloists.
Prizes
Championship Section Hade Edge took the honours ahead of Durham Miners Association, who picked up the prizes for best march and hymn tune, and the youngsters of Elland Silver Youth Band.
Their talented trombonist Charlotte Horsfield (just featured on the 4BR Scouting Report) claimed the ‘Best Soloist’ prize, whilst the band took home the ‘Most Entertaining ‘ award.
B Section victory
In the B Section, there was a deserved victory for Lancaster, ahead of a delighted Ratby Co-op and Sedburgh.
In a close battle, the top two bands shared the arch and hymn tune prizes, with Ratby celebrating their 15th anniversary by also taking the ‘Best Basses’.
