The Wingates Band is getting ready to leave the mainland UK for a short concert tour of Jersey, where the band will a wide-ranging programme of music including two major works by their award-winning composer-in-residence, Lucy Pankhurst.
Premiere
Her British Composer Award winning ‘In Pitch Black’ which commemorates the 100th anniversary of the Pretoria Pit disaster in the band’s local village of Westhoughton, will be featured alongside the premiere of her latest work, ‘Mr Sonneman’s Unusual Solution’.
The work was commissioned from Lucy by the band’s contest and concert secretary Tony Smith and based around a short children’s story he wrote in 1988.
