There has been further cause for celebration at the Lanner & District Silver Band, after bass trombonist Pete Holmes heard that he has passed his BA (Hons) degree in Music Performance from the Combined Universities of Cornwall.
Pleased
The band was very pleased to assist Pete with his finals performance, where he played a series of duets with Lanner’s solo trombonist, Gareth Cottrell as well as joining up with first trombone
Alan Caddy, for the trio, ‘Temptresses for Trombones’.
Pete told 4BR: “I’m delighted to have passed this degree, which marks the end of three years hard work. The help I have had from the band and friends in preparing for it and developing my technique over the last couple years have been invaluable.”
Work
With the hard work over for the time being, Pete will commence work towards his Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) at Truro College in the Autumn.

Grade 8
Pete’s achievement was not the only exam success at the band, as principal euphonium Matthew Rowe was awarded a distinction for his recent Grade 8 exam, which included gaining a maximum mark for his performance of the famous Horowitz Euphonium Concerto.
Matthew added: "To be given a distinction at Grade 8 is the icing on the cake!"
