The St Helens Youth Band has claimed a sponsor’s award at the Music for Youth National Festival in Birmingham.
Atmospheric
Under the direction of Anna Hughes- Williams, their award winning programme opened with what was described as an ‘atmospheric and precise’ rendition of the theme music to the film ‘JFK’, which featured the band’s talented solo cornet player James Ball.
Trip to Soviet Union
This was followed by the septet of ‘Your Are the Sunshine of My Life’ featuring the bands trombones and cornets before tr ip to the Soviet Union and ‘Glasnost’ and a little bit of classical Tchaikovsky in ‘Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy’. Finally the band finished with Henry Mancini’s, ‘It had Better be Tonight’.
