The Black Dyke Youth Trombone Quartet recently performed in the Chamber Music Section of the National Festival of Music for Youth at the Birmingham Conservatoire, claiming a special award from the judges for what they described as their, ‘stylish and classy playing’.
Brainchild
The group is the brainchild of Black Dyke’s principal trombonist Brett Baker while he was the President of the British Trombone Society, and was formed last September to give the players an opportunity to play quality ensemble music and be ambassadors for the instrument.
Everyone is delighted at the way the quartet performed their programme of ‘Libertango’, ‘Mr Sandman’ and two movements from Philip Sparke’s ‘Tokyo Triptych’Brett Baker
Ovation
