The tremendous financial support and assistance given over 20 years by East Yorkshire Motor Services is to be celebrated by the band that proudly bears its name.
EYMS brand
The EYMS brand has been taken to all parts of the country, into Europe and beamed on live television across the world ever since the partnership was sealed in 1992, when the band changed its name from City of Hull, who were formed just three years earlier by Robert Childs.
The Hull based company, which operates a fleet of more than 300 buses throughout Hull, East Yorkshire and the North Yorkshire coast and moors, provided coach travel to band engagements and provided a new set of ‘walking out’ blazers.
Enduring
Peter Shipp, the EYMS chief executive, was invited to become band president, a role he still holds and the company name appears on music banners at every concert by the band.
The relationship is one of the most enduring in the brass band movement and will take on extra significance when the band provides music for the forthcoming National Association of Local Bus Managers’Conference.
Delighted
Mr Shipp told 4BR: "I was delighted to be given the opportunity to sponsor the band 20 years ago and even more pleased the arrangement has lasted so long and so successfully. I have watched the band’s amazing progress through the ranks of the brass band world and been even more delighted to see it reach the very top of the league."
He added: "We have greatly enjoyed its performances over the years, especially in the wonderful surroundings of the Albert Hall, and I like to think our fairly modest sponsorship has helped in its success."

Unheard of
Band chairman Tony Newiss added: "The sponsorship and support of EYMS has allowed the band to develop to the standard it has at a rate that is extremely rare. To have such a relationship spanning 20 years is virtually unheard of these days and is more reminiscent of a time now long gone when all major factories and works had their own bands.
We look forward to carrying the EYMS name to even more contest and concert successes."
