The innovative Bolsover Summer School course is scheduled for the 22nd to 28th July at the state of the art Heritage High School at Clowne, Derbyshire, with accommodation provided at the IBIS Hotel at Barlborough.
The event will be led by Ian Porthouse, Musical Director of the newly crowned double Masters champion, Tredegar Town Band.
Enjoy
He told 4BR that delegates will enjoy a wonderful event, packed with fun as well as plenty of top class music making.
"It’s going to be both demanding and exciting," he said. "The repertoire will include a wonderful new commission entitled, ‘Dance Music’ from the pen of Kenneth Downie, whilst the delegates will get plenty of top class tuition and guidance from a brilliant team of tutors."
The course will close with a concert on Saturday 28th July featuring the Masters champion, with Kenneth Downie in attendance, whilst the tutors include star performers Mark Wilkinson, Helen Williams, Glyn Williams, John Barber, Gavin Saynor and Mark Landon.
Great event
Mark Wilkinson is certainly looking forward to the course, as he told 4BR: "Certainly – it’s going to be a great event. As well as various masterclasses, individual lessons, sectional, full rehearsals and concerts, there are inventive social activities and trips that have been arranged in what can only be described as a fantastic location with great facilities."
During the week the delegates will make visits to local attractions such as the World Heritage Site, Creswell Crags and Hardwick Hall where they will also perform a short concert.
Invocation
In addition, the delegates have also been invited to an orchestral concert featuring the Sinfonia VIVA Orchestra performing a specially commissioned work entitled ‘Invocation’.
The ‘Cello Concerto’ written for Matthew Barley and featuring ethnic percussion and contemporary African dancer, Bode Lawal, is a contemporary work that will certainly provide a very different musical genre to enjoy.
Great opportunity
Bolsover Council’s Carole Crompton commented to 4BR: "The week promises to be a great opportunity to benefit from the hands on advice and direction that Course Director Ian Porthouse and the tutors will bring."
Carol added: "I’m sure everyone will have lots of fun whilst also relaxing in the first class accommodation and facilities on offer.
The visits to key attractions and concert with Tredegar Town Band at the conclusion of the course will be the icing on the cake for everyone. I’m really looking forward to the course."
