75th celebration for Gloucestershire

The Gloucestershire Brass Band Association will celebrate its 75th anniversary in grand style next month.

The Gloucestershire Brass Band Association (GBBA) will celebrate its 75th anniversary on 7th July with a day of music making in the grounds of Highnam Court in Gloucester.

Superb day

Built in 1658, the grounds of the magnificent house will provide a superb backdrop as 20 GBBA member bands perform a series of 20 minute concerts throughout the day, starting at 10.00 am and culminating in a massed bands concert at around 8.15 pm, conducted by Philip Harper.

New music

Two new music commissions from Matt Kingston entitled ‘O Still Voice of Calm’ and Philip Harper called, ‘Glorioso’ will be performed by the massed bands, as will a third commission from Philip called ‘Colwell Suite’, which written for the Gloucestershire Youth Band, who are also taking part in the event.

The massed bands will also perform the Yellow Baton version of ‘Going the Distance’ by Paul Lovatt-Cooper, whilst the audience are invited to come and go as they please during the day and to bring their picnics, tables and chairs for an enjoyable brass festival, all compered by David Hayward.

Proceeds

Proceeds from the day will go towards two local charities; the Great Oaks Hospice from Coleford in the Forest of Dean and the Pied Piper Appeal.

Harlow Brass Band

February 27 • We are a friendly, non-contesting band who have the following vacancies:. Trombones, 2nd Horn, Back Row Cornets, Percussion. . We rehearse every Thursday in Harlow, 8-10pm and play at local events throughout the year.
