The Scottish Brass Band Association (SBBA) has congratulated two member youth bands who were recently invited to perform at the Music for Youth National Festival in Perth.

Riverside Youth and National Champions Carnoustie & District Youth participated in the one day event, receiving a warm response from the audience for their impressive performances.

Wide variety
The Festival included a wide variety of music genres represented by a collection of 11 groups of young musicians from across Scotland.
A SBBA spokesperson told 4BR: "The Riverside Youth Band was created in 2011 in Port Glasgow, and is conducted by Lynda Nicholson. The band clearly demonstrated the strong emerging talent this relatively new youth band holds, playing in a number of different styles and with a sense of fun."
They added: "The 2012 National Youth champion and BBC2 British Youth Brass Band of the Year, Carnoustie and District were conducted by Michael Robinson, and performed a demanding and varied programme which featured bass trombonist Josiah Walters who received rapturous applause from the enthusiastic audience."
High profile
Andrew Duncan, Development Manager for SBBA, who were a partner for the event, commented: "This was a very high profile youth music event and it was a pleasure to see Scotland’s youth brass band community represented so impressively by these two bands."
He added: "The level of talent throughout the Festival was to be admired, so our young players should be extremely proud of their performances and I’m sure will have thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience."
