The Scottish Brass Band Association (SBBA) has expressed its delight at the success of the recent West Lothian Festival of Brass contest which took place in conjunction with the West Lothian Council in Livingston’s Howden Centre on Sunday 10th June.

Impressive

A spokesperson told 4BR: "It was gratifying to welcome a near capacity audience to this landmark venue and the event saw impressive performances from six of Scotland’s top brass bands.

The varied programmes, innovative presentations and sheer quality of performances all combined to offer the enthusiastic spectators an afternoon and evening of memorable entertainment and musical inspiration."

Support

SBBA Development Manager Andrew Duncan added: "This has been a spectacular show from six very talented bands, and an event which looks set to be a favourite amongst the audiences it attracts.

We are extremely grateful to the West Lothian Council for their support of this event and for providing such a comprehensive venue for its staging. Anne-Marie Vance, Senior Arts Officer for West Lothian Council, in particular has always been an active supporter of SBBA and her involvement with this event has been a tremendous help towards its growth and development over the years."

Success

He added: "I must also pay tribute to the SBBA team who have worked relentlessly to organise and run the festival, ensuring its smooth running in such a professional manner. The collaboration between SBBA and West Lothian Council has definitely guaranteed the event to be such a huge success!"

SBBA’s spokesperson added: "This was the first year the festival has been held on a single day and the positive feedback from performers and audience alike indicate it could be the winning formula for future years."

Wonderful experience

They added that one audience member commented to them: "This has been such a wonderful experience, a real treat, to see and hear such a mass of talent all under one roof!

It’s an event that I’ll definitely want to attend again – there was loads of variety and it was extremely entertaining. It’s been a really special day and has given me so much to enjoy!"

2013

They concluded: "Plans are now underway for next year’s festival and it is hoped to adopt this same one-day-event approach again which has proved to be an all-round winning format.

In the meantime, congratulations are offered to all the performers and especially to the prize-winning bands who have come together to create a memorable 2012 West Lothian Festival of Brass."
