English National warn of Torch hold ups

Make sure you get to Preston early for the English National Championships — unless you want to be stuck behind the Olympic Torch.

Preston Guild Hall

The BFBB are warning people who wish to come along to the English National Championships in Preston on June 23rd to make sure they give themselves plenty of time to get to the Guild Hall for the contest.

Leeway

A spokesperson told 4BR: "The early morning procession of the Olympic Torch will weave its way past the Guild Hall around 8.15am, so it is advisable for people to ensure they give themselves plenty of leeway as there may be a great deal of early morning traffic disruption."

The BFBB are also asking bands to be mindful that there will be road closures in place from around 7.00am onwards, and whilst these will not be permanent they may well be in place until around lunchtime.

Road closures

The BFBB have been informed by Lancashire Police that although these are to accommodate the procession, it is the number of sightseers that is the more pressing problem for people wishing to get access to the Guild Hall complex.

Normal access

The Police spokesperson confirmed that access for unloading at the bus station would be as normal — via Tithebarn Street into Lords Street, and that the multi-storey car park, again at the bus station, would be open as normal throughout the day.
