Members of the Marple Band have been treading the boards in the latest production of the iconic stage play of ‘Brassed Off!”
Method acting
The band really applied themselves to ‘method acting’ too in the eight sell out performances, with the famous Whit Friday contests scenes where the players imbibe liberally with beer between the venues seeing the cornet section giving it the full Dustin Hoffman treatment!!
The production company’s own Gloria Mullins, played by actress Sarah Wellicome, was so taken with the band that she has decided to join them on 3rd cornet on the forthcoming Whit Friday contests4BR
Decline
Taking their cue from the conductor’s immortal line in the film: '14 contests doesn’t mean 14 places to have 14 pints,' the band were asked to play three times (as if at three different venues) gradually declining in quality as the real beer flowed down thirsty throats!
The production company’s own Gloria Mullins, played by actress Sarah Wellicome, was so taken with the band that she has decided to join them on 3rd cornet on the forthcoming Whit Friday contests.
Inspired
Although not originally a brass player, Sarah plays flute for the Werneth Concert Band and has been inspired to keep on playing after taking on the role in the play.
