Miners set for contest return

Organisers are looking for coal mining community bands to take part in the second running of the Miners Welfare Contest in Porthcawl.

Miners Welfare Trophy

After the tremendous success of the inaugural event held at the Grand Pavilion in Porthcawl last year, the organisers of the Miners Welfare Entertainment Contest are looking for bands to take part in the second running of the contest on September 15th.

Graded

The single section competition is open to bands from a coal mining community throughout the UK, graded sections 2, 3 & 4 nationally.

With a generous prize fund and additional awards for most entertaining band, best soloist and prizes for the highest placed 3rd & 4th Section bands, the contest has already attracted an encouraging list of competitors.

Welcome

Contest organiser Rob Gowing told 4BR: "After the success of last year's event we gained a solid foundation on which to build. Now we can offer places for bands wishing to take part, and even though the Third Section quota is currently full we welcome any enquires and still have places for bands graded in the Second and Fourth Sections."

even though the Third Section quota is currently full we welcome any enquires and still have places for bands graded in the Second and Fourth SectionsOrganiser, Rob Gowing

Further information

The adjudicator for the event will be David Read MBE, and bands requiring further information should contact, contest controller Rob Gowing at: robjgowing@aol.com
