Camborne Town Band has announced that Steve Sykes has returned to the band as Professional Musical Director with immediate effect.

The internationally renowned tuba star has been one of the most sought after freelance conductors in the banding world in the past year or so, working extensively with the likes of Cory, Tredegar, Leyland and Fairey, as well as maintaining his worldwide commitments as a soloist.

Steve will take responsibility for the overall musical direction and conduct at contests and some concerts, but will share regular rehearsals with David Hamilton who will act as Resident Conductor.

David joined Camborne on Eb tuba in 2011 shortly after moving from his native Scotland to his current job as Music Performance Coordinator and Brass Instructor at Humphry Davy School in Penzance.

Foray

His first foray into conducting came in 2005 at the NABBC Conductors Competition where he won the Scottish final. He has held a variety of positions with brass bands, choirs and musical theatre groups in Scotland and more recently in Cornwall.
