The Foden's Band has honoured principal cornet Mark Wilkinson, who has held the position with the band for the past 20 years.
Outstanding
His outstanding contribution over two decades was acknowledged at Bridgewater Hall in Manchester on Sunday during the band’s performance at the Great Northern Spring Brass Arts Festival.
To Mark's surprise, Band Chairman John Barber, presented him with a wonderful portrait picture illuminated by a number of quotations from some of the leading conductors he has worked under during his time with the Sandbach band, including Howard Snell, Allan Withington and Bramwell Tovey.
Tributes
Garry Cutt's citation read: "He is the last of a dying breed with his commitment and devotion to Foden's Band."
Howard Snell, the conductor who appointed Mark to the end chair had added: "A flawless servant to banding and Foden's in particular. A stellar player."

Stunned
Mark was totally unaware of the surprise presentation, but thanked the band for marking his achievement.
"I’m humbled to follow in the some of the all time greats who've played for Foden's throughout their history. I'm flattered that the current band has given me this keepsake which I really do appreciate."
