The popular Morley March & Hymn Tune Contest will take place this year on Sunday 17th June, in Morley, West Yorkshire, kicking off at 1.30pm.
Place left
Organisers have informed 4BR that the two adjudicators this year are Stan Lipeatt and Stuart Fawcett, and that despite a fine entry there are still a few places available for competing bands.
The proceeds of the contest go to the Morley & District Lions Charities, and whilst there are no formal rules, it is expected that all bands enter into the spirit of the competition and field their regular band wherever possible.
Format
The format of the contest comprises a road march followed by three verses of a hymn tune and a contest march in the band arena at the side of the local Town Hall. It is open to all bands from Championship grade to Youth and all music is own choice.
In the event of inclement weather the contest will be held in the Alexander Hall in the Morley Town Hall, minus the marching element.
The total prize fund stands at £1600 and contains a first prize of £500 for the overall winner4BR

A spokesperson told 4BR: "The contest has established itself as a prestigious event in Morley and we continue to have the full support of the Mayor, the Morley Town Council and the Morley Entertainment Committee."
The total prize fund stands at £1600 and contains a first prize of £500 for the overall winner.
