The Whaley Bridge Band has announced the appointment of Matt Shaw as their new Musical Director.

Experience

Matt graduated last year from the Royal Northern College of Music and currently plays bass trombone with Championship Section Bollington Band.

In addition he has played with various ensembles such as the Hallé Orchestra, and has founded his own swing band ‘Shaw Swing’. He has also won the 2012 Ohio Brass Arts Festival Composition Contest with his piece 'A Little Minor Turmoil', for brass band and percussion.

Matt told 4BR: "I’m delighted to have been appointed MD. It’s my intention to expand the band’s current repertoire to include more swing influenced pieces, allowing me to draw upon knowledge gained from my previous position as a big band director.

I’m looking forward to working with the band, and I am eagerly anticipating my début performance later this month."
