The St Austell Band is to pay tribute to the great Cornish composer Goff Richards at this year’s Whit Friday march contests.
Request
Shortly before Goff passed away last year he contacted Aaron Harvey, MD of the band, and requested that on their next visit to the famous Uppermill contest venue if they could play the William Moyles march ‘Cornish Cavalier’.
Goff adjudicated at Uppermill for 16 years, and five years ago when his illness began to take its toll he asked his good friend David Marshall to take over the role.
Special
David accepted and has adjudicated there ever since out of the respect for Goff as a wonderful musician and a very special friend.
The St Austell Band were very close to Goff, and to this date still have many of his handwritten works in their library.
